PG RX-0 Unicorn 02 Banshee

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10334864

Guys have a look at the link above, one of the online shops the I frequently visit. They’ve started taking reservations for the New PG coming this September 2015. It’s the somewhat expected RX-0 Unicorn 02 Banshee Norn. Unfortunately the the reservation is already closed, but eventually it will open again anytime soon before the actual release date.

There reservation opened the 2nd of July and already they have already reached they’re quota. It happened so fast considering its only the 6th of the month.

 Expectations:

To be honest I’m not expecting too much on this new PG. It’s likely going to be the same frame and gimmicks from the PG Unicorn with a different color scheme.  Judging from the CG render the site has provided, I looks like its going to come with some different effect parts.

I just love the Unicorn as a mech. Actually I’m a bit biased towards the whole UC Series, as I love most of the mechs there, from the Jesta, Rozen Zulu, to the awesome Kshatriya and Sinanju and the massive Neo Zeong. Well back to the Banshee, its the more flamboyant of the two RX-0 brothers, that’s why it’s called the Lion more than the Unicorn. If Bandai is really planning on making the Norn and not just the Banshee and if this new one is anything close to the PG Unicorn, I would expect this to be an awesome kit as well.

Would I Buy one:

To be honest, I have my PG Strike Freedom and Unicorn in a box at home opened but not built, just because I don’t have much time to build them due to some reason either too busy with family or just too lazy. (Don’t build just because you have to, but build when you want to, It’s a hobby not a job is what I always say), which frustrates the heck out of me. But I will eventually get to them. I’m about 70% decided on getting it and 30% because my Mrs. would probably kill me if I get another one, but the thing is my Mrs actually likes the Banshee too. That’s why she wasn’t too upset when I got the PG Unicorn and let me off some serious sermons to a certain degree. But if I get it it would probably add to my stack of unfinished kits but it’s so tempting to get it.

Final Thoughts:

I would probably end up getting it either on release date or on a later date. but I keep in mind that even the PG Unicorn still remains unavailable 6 months from release date except on over priced Ebay shops which is probably due to the release of the new PG kit. For the Dads here in NZ or everywhere else that celebrate Father’s Day on September, so it would be an awesome present on the day (I’m actually thinking on playing this card. lol). Either you like the Banshee or not this would be an awesome addition to Bandai’s PG family.

PG Wing Gundam Zero Custom – Part 3

After months of sneaking from my wife and daughter, I finally finished this kit a week ago but was too lazy to take pictures right away. It’s quite difficult to work on a kit when you only have at least 30 minutes each session, and I’m lucky to have it twice a week. But anyway, I learned a lot from this build. I somehow improved my metallic paints and air brush skills. I was also too lazy to apply clear gloss coating before applying decals. The result is really disappointing, on some parts you can clearly see the edge of the decals. And I didn’t complete the panel lines.

Overall, I enjoyed building this kit. But what would be really good is if this kit comes with a stand. I don’t think I’m willing to spend at least $30 for a stand so I might build one in the future. The finished kit is also huge that it will take one shelf in my display cabinet.

Surely this is a must have to all Gundam Wing fans. Now I’m looking forward to build its Real Grade version.

PG RX-0 Unicorn – Part 1 – Allocation

Well, after many months of speculation, and many weeks of waiting on my pre-order this morning that special email from HLJ.com arrived with those magic words.

We’re pleased to inform you that payment has been completed for the following items, and they have been moved into your Private Warehouse at HLJ.     BAN994365  1/60 PG Unicorn Gundam

The kit itself left only silver coins from NZ$180. That may sound a lot but a couple of bigger MG kits will set you back about the same amount if the exchange rate is not favorable.

I have the LED set on back-order and am hoping that comes through this weekend as experience shows I will need to release the stock Monday at the latest if I want it here before we head to small town Waikato for Xmas.

Otherwise this series will have to wait until after new years 🙁

PG Wing Gundam Zero Custom – Part 2

The original blue parts of this kit is a bit dark for me so I decided to change them to Sky Blue. I also like how the RG kits have white and grey armour parts. So I’ll do the same here, for grey armour parts I’ll be using Royal Light Grey. I will also paint some of the red parts with German Grey. And finally for the inner frame, I’m thinking of doing a very dark Gunmetal.

Gathered all the blue parts, these will be primed then painted with Tamiya Acrylic Sky Blue.

I also changed the yellow parts although not noticeable. From strikingly dark yellow to lemon yellow.

IMG_1879

Some of the red parts, I covered them with Tamiya Acrylic German Grey. You can still see the red plastic underneath but it doesn’t bother me as they will be hidden once attached to other parts.

IMG_1880

I will paint these white parts with light grey. I used masking sol to cover those round parts as I will paint them with a different colour later (haven’t decided yet what colour to use). For the blue shoulder armors, I’m going to paint the inner side with gunmetal.

IMG_1883

I pre-shaded the panel lines with gloss black before painting the light grey layer. I want the pre-shading effect to be very subtle to still have a clean build.

IMG_1887

Painted over some details under the smaller shoulder armor. Here’s something I don’t enjoy doing next to sanding, applying masking tape.

I used gloss black to pre-shade the panel lines of the blue parts.

IMG_1889

More detail painting, for the vents, I use airframe aluminum paint. Although not visible here, but these parts are now shiny :o)

IMG_2631

And more masking tape!

IMG_2639

Changed the clear green parts to blue. I won’t be displaying the kit with the lights on so no need for transparent parts.

IMG_2032

Assembled arm attachment with the shiny blue part (used to be transparent green).

This will be my last WIP update for this kit, my next post about this will be the final photos. Hopefully I can get it done before Christmas. The body is almost done, just need to apply decals then top coat.

This kit is taking me way too long to finish, it’s because I’m also busy with these: table centerpieces for my daughter’s Minnie Mouse birthday party.

PG Wing Gundam Zero Custom – Part 1

For my birthday this year, my wife gave (which means she let me buy) me a Perfect Grade kit! At first I was thinking about getting the PG Astray or this kit, but then again this kit reminded me of my high school days. I’m also happy about my decision to get this kit because of the news of RG Wing coming out this December. Would be nice to display this one beside a smaller version. This is the most number of screws I’ve seen for a gundam kit so far. And there are also quite a number of die cast parts.

Finished snap fitting the internal frame:

Internal leg frame again, I wonder what those springs are for:

IMG_0975

Now the internal arm frame, heaps of screws here:

IMG_0978

Putting the wings together, with all the big parts this should be an easy task. Well I’ve never been so wrong in all my life. The wires which acts as springs are such a pain to keep in place while snap fitting the main parts. They just have this habit of jumping all over the place. Took me quite a while before finally pinning those damn things in their place.

IMG_2482

Done snap fitting this big guy, now all I have to do is disassemble it, clean the nub marks, apply plastic cement to parts that should stay together, sand again, apply primer, paint, apply decals and finally apply top coat. So, yeah that should keep me busy for a long while.
