MG Hi-Nu ver KA (Dan)

This is my take on a Dark RX-93 Hu-Nu Gundam. Taking inspiration from GF13-001 Master Gundam from G-Gundam Series and RX-178 MK-II Titan.

MG Hi-Nu ver KA (Brian)

After almost four months, I’ve finally finished this kit. Usually I only work around 2hrs/week, sometimes longer depending on my wife’s mood. I’ve done a few touch up to add details to the kit, although they were mostly too minor to see. I also went conservative with the colours I used. I mainly used four colours for the armour: light, medium and dark gray, and gunmetal black. The gunmetal is not really obvious and looks like plain black, but with closer inspection in person you will see that it is slightly lighter. I added small accents of orange as well.

I didn’t paint the white parts, just applied decals then top coat.

I used magnesium and dur aluminium colours for the frame and the back of the shield.

IMG_3207

I also used metallic decals together with the kit’s water slide decals.

I really like how the metallic mesh compliments the surrounding bright orange.

I applied aurora film on the fin funnels, not very visible on bright background though.

Then the stand is painted with three different shades of gold to be lighter on the one end.

MG Hi-nu ver KA (Group Build)

Our very first group-build, for this we’ll be building the Master Grade Hi-nu ver KA.

This kit mostly got good reviews online. And when I look closer at the runners, I noticed that almost all of the armour parts has under-gates. This should lessen the need to sand each part. Also the hands are similar to Perfect Grade kits.

For the group build, this will run from 13-03-15 until 17-07-15. No particular theme here aside from building the same kit. We will try our best to update our WIP pages between these dates.

Here’s what we’re planning to do:

Brian – Change the colour scheme to black/grey/white, adding metallic colour accents. Use a combination of the original water-slide decals and SamuelDecals’. Also add additional details to the armour.

Click here to see the WIP page.

Dan – Dark version of Hi-Nu, taking inspiration from Master Gundam and RX-178 MK-II Titan.

Click here to see the WIP page.

WebbyNZ – Add details with aftermarket detail set and give it a more ‘familiar’ colour scheme.

Last Update: 09/03/15

With a couple of days left before the group build starts this is what ill be tackling.

Box Art which will be dressed up with once it arrives from Mr Ebay

Out Of Box it builds to look like this

But I plan on something a bit more recognizable, at least in colour and taking inspiration from other TV/Movies like these other builders have

Last Update: 02-07-2015

I’ve started snap fitting the kit and decided start painting as well. I’m doing the fin funnels and shield first. The funnels are quite tedious to build, lots of repetitive steps. I can’t wait to finish this so I can move on to the body. I’m also being lazy here, I paint some of the parts even before taking them out of their sprue trees.

I used dur aluminium and magnesium for the back of the shield.

IMG_2958

These orange and magnesium painted parts will go between the fin funnels.

IMG_2957

For the parts inside the fin funnels, first I primed them with gloss black (those black parts above), then with gold. Then I mask the center so that I could paint the rest of it with grey.

Now working on the backpack, I added some koto upgrade parts and primed the vents with silver. Later I will paint clear orange over the silver parts.

IMG_2979

This will be the centre of a fin funnel. I didn’t bother removing the copper parts from the tree before painting because the sides will be hidden anyway.

IMG_2980

I scribble on the manual as I snap-fit, with this I can have a better idea on how to paint each part.

IMG_2998

Just finished painting the rest of the rifle parts. Now I just need to wait for at least 24hrs before snapping it back together. That is to make sure that the paint is dry and won’t rub off when parts are pressed together.

I started opening the vents in legs using the back of the blade of my hobby knife:

To add micro mesh for additional details.

Which should look like the shoulder armours that I’ve done earlier:

I like how the pistons look on gundam kits, too bad these will be hidden behind the knee armour.

The mesh looks awesome in the leg frames, it’s also easier to install compared to the mesh on the shoulder armours.
